Teaching Philosophy

"Why do we need to learn science?"  I hear this often on the first day of school.  Science is around you, inside you, it shaped your past, your present and is shaping your future!  Science is important!  Tying science concepts to real life examples that are easy to relate to and reproduce,  helps get kids interested and keeps them that way.

Teaching Strategy

In the 1980's BSCS (Biological Sciences Curriculum Study), developed a model for science instruction called the 5 E's.   The 5E approach is based on the idea that students build new knowledge on top of old ideas.   This model has expanded to 7 E's.   I've taken the liberty of adding "Encourage", which would make it 8!  For more information about the 5 E's go to BSCS.org.
